IZELL PYRAMID ONE U

Dance rhythms, R&B melodies, trap beats and original rap verses have been artfully threaded through Izell Pyramid’s second release ‘one u’. From the off, this track will have you hooked with the slick incantation “one you live, one you like, one you love, one you fight for” and a playful electronic backdrop that switches off just as you’re getting into it, but we’re not left empty handed. Instead Izell Pyramid ups the R&B vibes with a half-rapped, half-sung set of lyrics that are instantly impressive. The track progresses further into dance, beats courtesy of producer Bobby Raps, who has previously collaborated with Izell and Spooky Black (aka Corbin) on a tune called ‘blame the internet’. In the latter half, everything takes a dark form, with the digitised snaps becoming choppier and more intense with standoff-ish bass pulsating ominously in the background. ‘one u’ is a song about doing anything for the people you love, but Izell's final remark suggests that his love is laced with fear - “you’ve become a distraction, too nervous to tell you, scared of your reaction.” Great lyrics, great beats, what more could you want? - HT
